Help with Errors Caused by Video Adapter Failures in 3D Games

For 3D games enthusiasts, there is nothing more painful and troublesome than frequent crashes occurring while they are devoting themselves to the stimulating games. But never mind! Here I will sum up some solutions for such unexpected errors aroused by graphics card failures.

Graphics problems

The first account may be the video memory corruption. Crashes easily happen when the video memory is damaged. Even if the computer has not shut down, for some time in games it will show up continual errors.

The second account probably is the breakdown in the circuitry or in the graphics chips.

For these two problems we’d better try another well-performed display card.

AGP slot is under voltage

It is the voltage instability that leads to power supply insufficiency in the AGP slot during games. Firstly, we should check whether the electric power is strong enough or whether the circuitry is stable or not. Additionally, we can enter the BIOS to adjust AGP voltage and restart the computer. Usually we only set the voltage 0.1V higher than the original in case of risks.

Jerry-built video adapters and compatibility problems

For some motley-brand, inferior-brand or small-brand video cards, poor quality as well as inadequate materials would possibly make their electric compatibility ill-suited. For example, if we regulate the AGP to 8X for an 8X display card in games, the system is halted between whiles, but things will be changed when we adjust AGP to 4X in the BIOS. The reason is that the 8X display card is very demanding about its electric compatibility, so a crappy card with poor compatibility is easily prone to hitches.

Heat dissipation problem

Access BIOS, detect whether the CPU temperature is up to snuff. Next, check whether the heat dissipation of video card is in good working.

System software problems

First, check whether the main board patches and graphics card driver have been installed properly and whether the driver is damaged or not. For computer crashes we can try to change new motherboard patches, or else a new graphics driver, but noted that not all the latest patches or drivers are always the best ones. We may as well try to install the ones in the CD presented with hardware.

Second, examine that whether the DirectX file is mangled or whether its version is too old. On the Start menu, select run and key “DXDIAG”, follow its instructions and run DirextX Diagnostic Tool to have a look.

Third, check the hardware acceleration, if it has turned on, try to turn it off or turn it down to see whether the issue is solved.

Fourth, clear up rubbish documents in the system, and if it still doesn’t work, reinstall the operating system.

Built-in on-board video adapter

If it is an integrated card, we should check the memory, because video memory in the integrated graphics chips is dispensed by memory.
Hereinbefore I have simply listed the common malfunction sources and solutions. When you come to problems in 3D games, try to found out the causes by following the aforementioned tips, and hope that would help you.
